For the first time in a few years, I’m actually going to make it to Comic-Con in San Diego. I wasn’t planning on going, like has happened for the last few years, but things changed rather last minute-ish and plans changed.
For a bit of background, my younger brother Jeff passed away back in 2000, on July 25th. He had a blood clot that got to his heart. He was only 17 years old at the time and was a rather active person, so it was a very sudden thing. In the years that followed, my parent’s usually tried to get out of the house and go somewhere away on “Jeff’s Day” so they could put all that out of their minds. That’s typically been the week of Comic-Con, so we’d take the crew out to Anaheim and spend a few days at Disneyland. (My family LOOOOVES Disneyland, if you haven’t noticed over the years.) I’d come with and I would usually spent a day or two down in San Diego.
The last few years, my mom had decided to just work her way through Jeff’s Day and try to keep herself busy at work so she could keep the days low key and distracted with the busy work, which meant that my trip to WonderCon was my convention trip for the year. Well, this year, she decided that she didn’t want to be around for the 25th. So, we have a Disneyland trip planned for the weekend and I get to go back to SDCC for a day.
I’ll be flying into San Diego on Thursday morning and will spend most of the day at the convention. It will be good to get back to SDCC, since it’s been a few years. I’m not sure if I’ll be ready for the crazy insanity that I’m sure it’s become since my LAST trip out there in 2010, but I’m going to try to hit more panels like I’ve been doing at WonderCon. And I’m going to see if I can get some folks to give me some thoughts on my comic coloring portfolio. Not sure if that’s going to work with the truncated time that I’ll be there (my flight arrives at 9:30am and I have a train back to Anaheim at 4:00pm…), but we’ll see what happens.
Next year, I’m hoping to be doing more stuff that I may look at a booth at either WonderCon or SDCC. We’ll see.
I need a break, no matter what happens. Been crazy around here as of late. For all that will be there, I’ll see you in San Diego on Thursday!
