Updates and Some New Reading By the Moon...

It's been quite a while since I've had opportunity to post something here. To be honest, there's little on the AtomicFoxtail end of things to talk about. I've been relatively slammed with school stuffs and it's put comic-related stuff on hold again. I'm working to try and get my schedule working in such a way that I'll be able to keep up with comic updates, but priorities are what they are and school and work stuff come first, unfortunately. SOmeday, there will be a teacher out there that will actually understand that there are more things in people's lives than just their class. When you have 4 teachers and each teacher expects you to spend 40-60 hours a week on THEIR classes, you run out of time to do much of anything. After I killed myself back in the late 90s, slaving away for my employer only to have said employer treat me and my coworkers like garbage, I swore to myself that I was never going to kill myself for anything like that ever again. That includes school. But, that also means that if all the time I have gets used up on school and work, no comic will be happening.

In other news, there's a new webcomic out today that is exceptionally cool. It's called By Moon Alone and it's really good. Hai has done an excellent job with getting the beginnings of the story and the art is just wonderful. Click on the banner and take a look. It's definitely worth the read.

More when I have it. :)

iKit Shuffle: October

Life has been kinda funky since starting school again, so things have been kinda out of sorts...

Since things haven't been rather noteworthy around here, here's an iKit Shuffle for the month of October.

It's been a rough month for drawing external stuff. All the drawing I've had time and energy for has been for classes, with a few rare exceptions. Most times I don't even have time to do "homework" because of how much time work takes up. As a result, poor Alice and the Neverwonder crew have been neglected. I really need to find time to get that going again.

Got tired of all the channels disappearing on Comcast's Basic Cable TV lineup, so we got the DirecTV turned back on. It's nice having all the old channels back. And the TiVo. :)

After getting said DirecTV turned back on, come to find out that they're trying to charge me for 7 Adult channel pay-per-view things that they say were done in 2000. Quite a feat considering that, 1) I don't use the Pay-Per-View, 2) I wasn't living in Utah in 2000 when they claim that they were done and 3) that my service at the Utah address was turned off in October 1999 and wasn't turned back on until 2003. I first called them on October 1st and today, October 31st, it's still not resolved. And I've spent at least 3 total hours on the phone on 3 different occasions to try and get this straightened out. I was assured by the last person that I talked to, a supervisor, that someone would call me back and tell me what the story was by the 30th. And it's now the 31st and no call. I get to play hardball with them now.

I hate charcoal. Drawing in charcoal is icky.

I like conte crayon. Much better for doing my figure drawings.

I also hate oil paints. While they have their appeal at times, things the last few weeks have just been frustrating... like curdling White... it's not liking the turpentine that I've been using I suppose... but it's the same as everyone else, so I'm not sure what's up there.

Today is my Dad's birthday and it's Halloween. The family is doing the usual setup, with Pirates of the Caribbean as the theme. Little bro is dressed up as Jack Sparrow and went to his Dance class dress up this morning. I'd love to have seen the reaction...

Since is it my Dad's birthday and there's little time for cooking because of the festivities of the day, that means it's Brick Oven pizza night. Best pizza outside Chicago.

And finally, got a copy of Mac OS X Leopard installed on the laptop. All in all, good stuff. There have been a few little glitchy things with 3rd party stuff, like having to do some manual configuration on my PHP installation and things like Xjournal not working (switched to iJournal, which I'm using right now), but the OS is really slick. Very nice.

I think that's it for now. More babbling when I have it.

Here's a little pubic service announcement for everyone here. This started up on deviantART, but it's a good cause to pay attention to cause it can affect anyone, so I decided to pass this on.

Working On Consolidation

It's a long weekend this week. Fall Break at school. I've been meaning to try to consolidate the sites so they have some consistency with the layout. I've got part one done. The main AtomicFoxtail site is done for the most part and now I get to move on to the Beyond Neverwonder site and the Foxtails site. It'll prolly take a little bit, but I'm hoping to get it done this weekend. It'll have to be in between drawing and coloring though. I'll have more as the weekend progresses.

Livin' with the Devourers of Time

It's been a rough couple of weeks the last little while. As some of you may have noticed (yes, all two or three of you ^_^), things haven't been moving too swiftly on the art front. The last 3 weeks or so have been slammed with school projects that have taken more time than I have and work projects that have taken time that they school projects should be using. I've had most of page 021 of Neverwonder done for a week or so, but with how crazy things have been, I haven't had a chance to actually finish it up. I'm hoping that now that I have the last 3D Design project out of the way and I'm kinda fudgeing my Illustrative Media class (I had another Devourer of Time, the Egg Pt. 2 that I never had time to even really start this last week... I'm going to have to make ths one up somehow) that I'll be able to get things a bit more managable. Work is still a variable, but there's little I can do there. Bills need to be paid, so work comes first.

Oh well, class is about to start here. More later. :)

New blogstuff

I'm moving house again as far as blog space. Things have gotten a bit blah over on LiveJournal, and I'm not being overly talkative over there anyhow. I'll be using this for generic art blog type stuff. I'll prolly end up cross-posting the stuff I put on deviantART and on the Beyond Neverwonder page. I've also started a new project called "Tekitsune's Foxtails." It's going to be a running comic strip style project, there won't be a release schedule though. It'll be one of those "whenever I have something to post" type things. It'll be a slice-of-life type story, just random little things that don't really have anything to do with anything. Just random silliness. When I have a goofy doodling idea, I'll probably put it there.

For now, I'm just getting ready for school to start up again next Wednesday. I got final grades back and I did better in my Art History class than I thought I was going to do, so it was good there. Now I just have to wait for Financial Aid money to arrive. The school was generious enough to delay my check because Summer grades weren't posted until yesterday. So I prolly won't see that until Wednesday, so I won't have any supplies for class unitl after the semester starts. Translation: Next week is going to be fun.

Catching back up...

Boy, I didn't think things would get this behind. I had a great time out in SoCal, but I didn't think that finals time would come upon me as soon after I got back as it did. I got back and pretty much had to launch into all the finals week prep immediately. I had a nastybad term paper to finish writing for Art History and then I had some drawings to catch up on in Drawing I... (I'll be posting those up on my deviantART page soonly, keep a look out and you can see what took up a good chunk of my time.) I got everything done on time, but it royally KILLED the comic schedule. Couldn't be helped though. School has to come first. Things seem to be more back to normal now. Not sure how things will work when the new semester starts up in a week or so though. Time will be in short supply, so I'm going to have to start planning things a bit more with school and work taking up most of my time. I'll get it all figured out though.

As far as vacation went, lots of Disney was done. I was happy to be able to get back to Disneyland again. It had been a few years since I'd been out there, so it was good. I didn't get to do much at SDCC this year. I was down there on Friday and when it was all said and done, I was only there for like 3 or 4 hours. But you know, it was enough to get done what I needed to do. I was able to grab the Jack Sparrow poster that my mom wanted. I was able to get a wallet for my COPIC markers. I was able to get some other supplies that I had been looking for. I got to look around most of the exhibit hall. It was ok for what I needed to do. Next year, the family won't be coming with, so I should be in San Diego the whole week next year. Of course, we'll see what happens...

One other thing that I did recently is get some new business cards printed up. These things aren't the normal business cards though. I had run across someone having mentioned a little printing company online called MOO. (You can get to them at www.moo.com.) They do these cute, little "MiniCards". They're like half the size of a normal business card, you can upload your own images for the front and then type some text for the back side. You can order one box of 100 cards for $20.00 and you can upload up to 100 images, so that every card can have a different image on it. I had a set of 11 different images uploaded, featuring some of the AtomicFoxtail comic characters, from Beyond Neverwonder and from my other series that's on the back burner, The Secret of the Sunsword. They arrived today and I have to say that they turned out REALLY nice. They'll be cool to hand out cause they're definitely different. I'll have to take a pict and post it so people can see what they look like. Cool stuff. (Click on the image to the right to see the cards.)

Beyond that, just trying to get back into the groove.

It's been a while since I've updated here, but here's something new. It's the latest project!

This is a group shot for my new webcomic called Beyond Neverwonder. It's kinda like an Alice in Wonderland meets Peter Pan type thing. But ultimately, beyond it being a webcomic, it's a project that I'm going to use to beef up my drawing skills. They've gotten rather bad over the years, so this will give me an excuse to keep up on it. It'll be updated Mondays. I figured that if I can bone up on artstuffs and try to be a bit entertaining at the same time, why not, ne?

If you want to see the comic, head on over to the website: www.beyondneverwonder.com.

New Artstuffs!

Well, it's the first new artstuff since... well, it's been a LONG time. Here are a few drawrings for the Sunsword story:

Those are on my deviantART site. As soon as I have more, I'll post them on there. (And prolly leave a message here.)

One thing I have noted, inking with Copics on sketch paper soaks up the ink too much. Need to use some better paper for inking stuffs. The Corinne art was drawn on a piece of notebook paper. The Ka'la drawing was done in my sketch pad. The lines look much cleaner on the Corinne piece.

Logos

The part that kept me from getting the AtomicFoxtail site done was the durned logo. Ever have a time when you have an idea but can't get anything good to come of it? Yeah, that's what this was. I had a bunch of different ideas when it came to setting up something for my artistic endeavors. AtomicFoxtail was the first idea. KitStudios was the second. There were a few others that didn't seem to work out as well. Because of my being stumped on the AF logo, I ran with KitStudios. But as I thought about it, that was a little too generic. I wanted something with a bit more of an edge to it. And the concept for the AF logo helped that. Initially I wasn't sure how to make it work. I finally came up with a decent enough idea, sketched it out and inked it. I scanned it into the computer and played around with the design in Illustrator for a bit, then took it into Photoshop and finished it up. I think it turned out rather well.

Now if I can get some more artstuffs going. ;)

Adventures in Art: Sketches

It's amazing to see how skills can deteriorate. I haven't seriously drawn much of anything since the late 80s. Never really took any "art" classes in college. And most of you out there know what happened with my latest attempt to get back into the school side of artstuffs.

So here I am, just by my lonesome having to do it manually. My Drawing I class was really cool, and I wish I could have finished it... Now I just have to keep going without the help of a "teacher".

Here's some of the latest stuff:

Now, mind you, I haven't done this stuff in a really long time. I know that my proportions are like WAY off. (To be honest, they usually have been. Something that I need to practice more.)

The character sketches are kinda obvious. I've been trying to get myself to work on my Secret of the Sunsword project for years and I'm trying get into a groove to get that going properly. I've been sitting on the story for 20 years now. I just need to stop being lazy and do it.

The hands on the other, er... hand, is one of the things that I'm HORRIBLE at drawing. That and eyes. Those two things are things that I really need to spend some good time working on. I'm usually ok with other things...

As for not having a teacher, well, I have all you artsy types out there. Any comments? Criticisms? Suggestions? I know it is basically ick, so no one will hurt my feelings if you tell me it sucks. :P I'm much better at copying other people's art than I am at coming up with original stuff...

Reboot.

Greetings all! Welcome to the opening of my AtomicFoxtail site. The first time around things kinda fell apart because of things in Kansas. Now that I'm in Chicago, things are going better and I've got time to play around with the projects that I wanted to work on with school. I've started in on the development stages of the Secret of the Sunsword webcomic again. I'm fixing up some of the story points and getting the character designs started on paper. (I know what they look like in my head, but that won't help you all at seeing the comic now, would it?)

I'll be posting various things as I have them. You know, goofy sketches, character design ideas and the like... I'll have more. Hopefully soonly.
